Shindzela Tented Camp - Premium Stays in Timbavati Game Reserve

Each tent has two twin beds, a wooden deck, and a private bathroom with a shower, sink, and toilet. The tents face a waterhole where elephants, hyenas, and antelopes drink. Solar power supplies the camp; there are no plugs in the tents, but a charging station is at the main lodge. Fans cool the tents, and blankets keep you warm during cold nights.

Meals are served outdoors with a view of the waterhole. Breakfast and dinner are pre-ordered from a small menu with options like eggs, toast, and two meat choices. Lunch is a buffet. The kitchen serves dishes such as Amarula bread and butter pudding, ostrich steak, and birthday cake. A bar sells drinks, and guests can order wine or champagne.

Two game drives per day are included: one in the morning and one in the afternoon. They use open 4x4 vehicles with a guide and tracker. The small pool overlooks the waterhole, and you can cool off between drives. Sun loungers and beach chairs are by the pool.

The camp is inside the Timbavati Private Nature Reserve, 1.5 hours from the main gate. Hoedspruit Airport is 20 minutes from the gate. The road to camp is sandy with ruts; a 4x4 or SUV is best. Taxis from the airport to the gate cost about 800 Rand.

The camp offers free parking, airport shuttles, daily housekeeping, and laundry. A concierge helps with check-in and check-out. There is a 24-hour security, a safe, and a gift shop with jewelry. Extra costs include a conservation levy of €23 per person per day and recommended tips of 300 Rand per guide, 200 Rand per host, and 100 Rand per housekeeper.
