The Wild Olive Tree Camp - Premium Stays in Welverdiend (Mpumalanga)

Accommodation is in canvas tents on raised wooden platforms. Each tent has a front deck, a private bathroom with a shower, toilet, and basin. The tents have solar-powered lights but no electrical outlets for charging phones or other devices. Guests should bring a power bank and a torch. The beds are comfortable, and the rooms are clean and basic.

The nightly rate includes a set three-course dinner prepared by the head chef, Happy. Dinner is served at a communal table, and breakfast is available for an extra charge. Breakfast includes cereal, yogurt, fruit juice, bacon and eggs, toast, jam, and coffee. Guests who leave early for morning game drives can request a packed breakfast.

The camp has an outdoor swimming pool with a shallow end, open all year. A small bush spa on site offers back massage, foot massage, full body massage, hand massage, neck massage, and other spa treatments. Guests can relax on the sun terrace, use the outdoor furniture, or sit by the campfire at night.

The camp is 1 kilometre from the Orpen Gate, which is the entrance to the Kruger National Park. It borders the Manyeleti Game Reserve. Hoedspruit/Eastgate Airport is 60 km away. The camp can arrange airport transfers (pick-up and drop-off) and a shuttle service. Guests must park at the main area, as the tents are not near parking. The paths to the tents are unlit gravel, so a torch is needed at night.

The camp is community-run and staffed by people from the local area. Staff are friendly and helpful. They offer daily housekeeping, private check-in/check-out, and packed lunches. Guests can arrange game drives in the Manyeleti Game Reserve or the Kruger National Park for an extra fee. The camp also has a tour or class about local culture.
